$ 4.6 Million Watch : Louis Moinet “Meteoris”

Louis Moinet is located in Saint-Blaise, Switzerland, specialising in the creation of luxury watches often featuring exotic materials and innovative technology, underpinned by the philosophy of limited edition mechanical art.

All of Louis Moinet’s timepieces are either exclusive limited editions or unique pieces, just like the Louis Moinet “meteoris”.

The Tourbillon Mars

The Tourbillon Mars dial features a hand-crafted fragment of the Jiddat al Harasis 479 meteorite, an authentic piece of the planet Mars that fell to Earth. The Jiddat al Harasis 479 is probably more than 180 million years old. Because of their rarity, Martian meteorites can sell for as much as US$1,000 per gram – more than 15 times the current price of gold.

The Tourbillon Mars

The greenish-grey colour of the meteorite throws into stark relief the central silvered hour and minute hands as well as the main spring and tourbillon escapement that are revealed by the dazzling open work dial architecture.

The escapement at 6 o’clock is mounted in a rotating tourbillon cage that ensure excellence in timekeeping precision by averaging the effects of positional variations caused by gravity, while the state of wind revealed by the visible main spring at 12 o’clock provides an organic indication of the available power.

The exceptional 18k white gold case of this Meteoris Tourbillon luxury watch comprises 50 components including the signature Louis Moinet crown guard and the display-back is just as spectacular as the dial-side, with the ‘octopus spring’ of the winding and setting mechanism taking centre stage.
