Venice, 15h July 2016. On 15th October 2016 the exclusive maxi-yacht regatta is back again at the unique setting of the Bacino di San Marco in Venice. The event has been held over the last three years in partnership with Venice’s luxury hospitality industry.
Each of the yachts bears the name of one of the great Venetian hotels, that is Hotel Danieli, The Westin Europa Regina, The Gritti Palace, Hotel Centurion Palace, Belmond Hotel Cipriani, JW Marriott, Cà Sagredo Hotel and the Hilton Molino Stucky. The eight teams will compete for coveted prizes, including, as every year, the Challenge’s prestigious Doge’s hat symbol, this year created by the exclusive art glassmakers of Seguso Vetri d’Arte.
The “Venice Hospitality Challenge – explains Mirko Sguario, who had the idea for the event and is Chairman of the Venice Yacht Club – is quite unique because it takes place over a city course as Venice’s Grand Prix of yachting, just as Monaco is home to its Formula 1 race.
The regatta, which enjoys the valuable support of Assicurazioni Generali S.p.A., was presented in Milan on Wednesday 29th June 29 at Clubhouse Brera to the exclusive membership of the Club di Copernico. Eighty players in the luxury and business community, from the hotel industry, big business and the national press, were welcomed there with aperitifs offered by Moët & Chandon, and introduced to the evening by Mirko Sguario and Daniela Nespolo of Club House Brera.
Led by Rachele Vitello, a familiar face on Sky Sports, the presentation event opened with a description of the course, which will have its climax in Saint Mark’s Basin Venice, followed by a screening of the highlights of the 2015 regatta.
Distinguished representatives of the Hotels then spoke about how the Venice Hospitality Challenge is not only an opportunity for the various stakeholders to meet together but also brings much to the undoubted prestige setting of Venice itself.
Speeches were made by Antonello De Medici – Venice Area Managing Director Starwood, Alessandra Pagano – GM Hotel Europa & Regina, Lorenza Lain – GM Hotel Ca’ Sagredo, Constance Stancanelli – Head of Institutional Relations Hilton Venice, Paolo Morra – GM Hotel Centurion Palace, Carmelo Assenza – Sales Manager Belmond, Cristiano Cabutti – Director of Sales and Marketing JW Marriott Hotel, and the skipper Dušan Puh which reaffirmed their absolute satisfaction for the winning project partnership that combines luxury and sailing while offering the city the chance to stage an exciting international event.
