PFW Ready to wear 2019: MUGLER, the second collection of CASEY CADWALLADER

A golden moment for Mugler. A few days ago at the 61st edition of the Grammy Awards a bubbly Cardi B surprised everyone by wearing a dress designed in 1995 by the stylist-visionary who remembers the shell of an oyster, a reinterpretation of Botticelli’s Birth of Venus.

The celebration of vintage and the rediscovery of precious archives, as everyone knows, is in fashion: the curators of exhibitions know that they dedicate the first world retrospective to the creative born in Strasbourg. Thierry Mugler: Couturissime, which will open its doors on March 2 at the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts, presents to the public 140 famous works signed by the designer.

The exhibitions catapult the visitor into the past, allowing them to discover the essence of the brand and its heritage, the fashion week project it into the future.

In the calendar of Paris Fashion Week staged these days, Mugler presents the second collection of Casey Cadwallader in the basement of the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris.

After defining his own style that interweaves sculptural tailoring cuts and fluidity closer to the active world, the American designer, who boasts creative collaborations such as Acne Studios, Narciso Rodriguez, J. Mendel and Loewe, goes further, leaving more room for his personal language.

The Fall Winter ready to wear 2019 is thus outlined by experimentation on materials and the introduction of prints inspired by trompe-l’oeil marble, to patterns that vaguely recall the “Palladian” floor.

A black suit with hourglass jacket, iconic element of the fashion house, opens the show directed by Cadwallader, but the original silhouette has been revisited to make the outfit more suitable for the day, with peplum details that slide on the hips.

In the collection stand out mini dresses with asymmetric hems in stretch fabrics and ruffles, coats and outerwear in leather, cargo pants with patchwork of tapestries.

Innovation in total respect of the founder Mugler, inexhaustible source of inspiration needed to rethink the new stylistic path of the fashion house.
