Fall/Winter 2019-20: Bags Trends

Category:

Legions of buyers and influencers, photographers capturing inspiring street-style scenes and a series of cocktail parties happening anywhere in fashion capitals. Bursting with social events, Fashion Weeks mostly explore the trends we will see in the upcoming seasons.

On FW 2019 runways, handbags took central stage alongside outfits. From mini-bags to totes, from crossbody bags to belt bags, from bag on bags (matching two bags in different sizes) to bucket bags, these accessories are stealing the show more and more in luxury brands’ collections, both with fresh new styles and remakes of it models.

Wishing to close the distance between young generations and luxury brands, several labels such as Dior, Valentino and Chloé have embraced Millennials’ trend obsession  ̶  logomania.

Besides their popular checked saddle and tote bags, Maria Grazia Chiuri’s fashion house has introduced new crossbody bags with bold metallic details, vaguely reminiscent of the ‘90s grunge style with Dior’s iconic elegant twist.

Once again, Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli brings back the brand’s original logo, to be reintroduced in spring 2019. The Fall 2019 collection presented in Paris was an explosion of bags bearing the “V” and coming in different sizes and looks, with structured flaps, leather or gold chained shoulder straps and even a photo-printed model. Their iconic Rockstud plays a minor role in the Fall collection, where it features a soft flap.

“Eden” is Clare Waight Keller’s new bag for Givenchy, bound to leave a mark for its unprecedented design. Available in crossbody, belt and bag-on-bag versions, it is either square or rectangular in shape depending on the size, and features round edges and a flap-and-logo closure.

A trend never gone unnoticed, large and travels handbags ruled again in Loewe and Lacoste’s collections. The opposite trend of mini-bags is just as strong still, whether minimalist like Hermès’s creations or finished by rich details, such as Chanel’s ski-shaped minaudiere or Balmain’s gold-studded crossbody bag.

Inspired by popular Teddy Coats, several brands such as Max Mara,Fendi and Off White focus on fluffy accessories in different shades varying from cognac brown tones to vibrant orange and lime colors.
