“A Performance Affair”: a performance-art only fair in Brussels

Category:

The festival dedicated exclusively to performance art is back to the Belgian capital and will be running at the same time as the Brussels Gallery Weekend.

After a successful first edition, A Performance Affair is back from September 5 to 8 in collaboration with the Brussels Gallery Weekend. The festival will transform two floors of the Vanderborght Building – in the old town center – into a busy three-day show where international galleries will present performances by 30 artists.

While there are numbers of festivals dedicated to performing arts, the Belgian event is the first to adopt the format of a fair and thus examine the relationship between performance art and its marketability. An ambitious challenge that prioritizes the artists’ needs and their ability to face the system.

A PERFORMANCE AFFAIR: THE ARTISTS

Organized by spaces and time slots, the artists invited to A Performance Affair will start performing at 11 am and continue through to late afternoon. Some of the most anticipated performers are Nazia Andaleeb Preema, who represents Bangladesh at this year’s Venice Biennale

Nazia Andaleeb Preema

and János Szirtes, one of the most acclaimed Hungarian artists; international names (Jelili Atiku, Kelvin Atmadibrata, Mira Calix, Andjeas Ejiksson, Olaf Nicolai, Gluklya Pershina, Asad Raza, Sislej Xhafa and Christian Jankowski) include some Italian artists too, such as Marinella Senatore (with a special project), Salvatore Viviano and Anna Mancuso.
