Attending a Parisian haute couture show is always a great emotion.
Armani Privé, who for years has dressed the most represented Oscar of cinema is perhaps suggesting with this collection what will be the outfits of the stars who will parade in a few days under the California sun?
In the front row of the parade, we saw Reese Witherspoon, Juliette Binoche and Guillaume Canet, who inevitably reminded us of the Oscar award ceremony which will take place in a few weeks.
Giorgio Armani opened his fashion show with very sophisticated suits – Ottoman silk jackets embroidered with stone-colored crystals, or silk jacquard boleros declined in his zigzag fetish motif, worn with faille or tulle trousers cut like long jodhpur . A masterful demonstration of the greatest contemporary tailor, full of charm thanks to the abstract floral motifs that decorated many pants.
Exotic, but with an elegance that, as always, makes the difference.
Armani Privé has articulated a large part of its collection around ikat, creating the many variations of this motif, from the Indonesian dye to the more geometric versions of the Uzbek ikats, passing through the double ikats of the Indian subcontinent.
We have already seen ikat parading through Armani’s collections in the 1980s
“It is a fabric that I have always loved, although I have never used it as much as this season,” explains Giorgio Armani, before posing behind the scenes of the parade with his Hollywood guests.
Asian inspiration, expressed in very short geisha hairstyles and Malaysian mini “songkok” hats. A generous and opulent collection, even excessive – and it is a very welcome fact, given the extreme sobriety that we traditionally associate with Armani. The creations were embroidered with pearls, crystals, fringes and several other decorations.
The soundtrack was perfect, consistent with the spirit of the parade: it was the flamenco drama Recuerdos de la Alhambra by the composer Francisco Tarrega.
