Monticolor, sustainability and care for the environment

Category:

Monticolor advocates sustainability. At the latest Pitti Filati trade show held in Florence, the company – a premium, patterned yarn manufacturer from Brescia, Lombardy – presented “FeelFine”, the first pilling-free organic yarn made from Turkish cotton, available in 76 colors and highly versatile as to applications and measures.

“This yarn is well more than a simple raw material,” states a release by Alberto Corti, a partner of Monticolor, which he co-founded in 1993 with brothers Fulvio and Vittorino Lanza. This project “demanded huge investments in research and development, as well as in production and logistics processes,” and shows “Monticolor’s commitment to a new development model that blends care for the environment, respect of mankind and sustainability, for an eco-friendly, ethical fashion from the start to the finished product,” he continued.

Suitable for both menswear and womenswear and wearable all year round, FeelFine was designed within “Colors For Life”, a platform launched by Monticolor in 2008 with the company’s first GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification. Monticolor has also joined the Detox project by Greenpeace, and has announced its commitment to eliminate all dangerous chemical emissions by 2020. For what concerns renewable fibers, the company has already designed patterned yarns in recycled polyester, made from post-consumer plastic bottles and plastics found drifting at sea.

With 45 direct employees at its 7 square meter plant in Montirone, Brescia, the company follows all stages of the yarn manufacturing process internally – design, production and technology, and marketing. Monticolor produces over 2,500 types of yarns for knitwear, jerseys, textiles and hosiery, in 282 shades.

Monticolor closed the 2019 financial year with a 23.5 million euro turnover (stable in 2018) and 1 million euro profits, 35% of which from exports and 65% generated in Italy for foreign customers
