Milan Fashion Week: The Show Must Go On!

Category:

During on online press conference, the President of the Italian Chamber of Fashion (CNMI) Carlo Capasa and Milan council member Cristina Tajani announced the scheduling for the next Milan Fashion Week, running September 22 to 28.

Unlike the London and New York Fashion Weeks, which mostly took place online, Milan’s event will be the first to go back to a semi-normal format. Of the 64 scheduled shows, 23 will happen on site, and 41 online (39 for womenswear only, 4 for menswear, and 19 for co-eds).

These will come along with 61 presentations (37 on site, 24 online), 12 presentations by appointment, and 22 events, for an overall 159 initiatives.

It will be an intense week. We tried to organize it at best to face this complex situation, clearly while observing all sanitary measures for everyone’s safety

Capasa explained.

Thanks to synergies with amazing Italian businesses, and the support by the municipality of Milan, we can now start again with over 150 events, 80 of which will happen on site. No digital-only any longer, although the online format will still play a key role; we have further enhanced our platform for the whole world to follow us live. Giant screens all around the city will broadcast the fashion shows for everyone to watch

Capasa thanked Italian companies for supporting the fashion industry by taking their shows back to Milan, or making their debut there. A guaranteed presence in Paris, Valentino will be the first to present its Spring/Summer 2021 co-ed collection in Milan on Sunday, September 27, at 2pm.

For the first time, September’s calendar will feature brands like Redemption, Sindiso Khumalo, MM6 Maison Margela, Ji Won Choi with a digital event, and shi.RT by Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi with onsite shows.

Grand comebacks are expected for Blumarine, under new creative director Nicola Brognano after being acquired by Marco Marchi (Liu Jo), Dolce&Gabbana and Francesca Liberatore, whereas Shuting Qui, Emilio Pucci, Elisabetta Franchi and Andrea Pompilio will hold digital shows.

The Milan Fashion Week’s agenda bursts with events including Laura Biagiotti’s 55th anniversary, which will be celebrated with a brand-new video feature; a short movie that will launch Emilio Pucci’s capsule collection, created in collaboration with Japanese designer Tomo Koizumi, co-winner of the LVMH 2020 award. Not to mention the co-ed presentation by creatives Fiona Sinha and Aleksandar Stanic, an unprecedented interpretation of Trussardi’s codes for Archive+Now, and Bikkembergs’s first jewel collection.

Sunday, September 27 will see the digital event “We are Madein Italy – The Fab Five Bridge Builders”, with 5 POC (People of Colour) Talents: five designers discovered by Michelle Ngonmo, founder of the Milan Afro Fashion Week, who will showcase their SS21 collections as a unique group.

After “China we are with you” and “Italia we are with you”, the CNMI will now show its solidarity with Lebanon’s population, severely hit by the harbor explosion in early August, by launching the project “Spotlight on Lebanese Designers – CNMI in support of the new generation of Lebanese Talent”, featuring 7 Lebanese designers (Azzi & Osta, Boyfriend the Brand, Emergency Room, Hussein Bazaza, L’Atelier Nawbar, Roni Helou) who will take part in the Milan Fashion Week with unreleased digital contents.

From September 22 to October 5, in collaboration with La Rinascente, the store’s 8 windows in Piazza Duomo will liven up with an installation starring 13 emerging brands (DROMe, Act N°1, Marco Rambaldi, Vitelli, Nico Giani, Blazè Milano, Flapper | Genevieve Xhaet, Iincado, Marco de Vincenzo, Vìen, Twins Florence, Simona Marziali – MRZ, Fantabody) that will have the chance to unveil their products to the audience. La Rinascente’s 4th floor will host a temporary store where a selection of the 13 brands’ collections will be on sale until October 11.

Once again this year, spaces at La Permanente in via Turati will become the Week’s Fashion Hub, and welcome the 11th edition of the Fashion Hub Market, where 7 emerging brands will steal the show: Gentile Catone, Salvatore Vignola, DassùYAmoroso, Daniele Carlotta, Roni Studios, C’est la V, and Francesca Marchisio. The Fashion Hub will also feature the “Designers for the Planet” room, with 6 emerging Made in Italy brands focusing on sustainability (Fantabody, flavialarocca, Tiziano Guardini, Bav Tailor, Yatay, Silvia Giovanardi), and the Budapest Select. For the fourth time, 5 Hungarian brands (Kata Szegedi, Mero, Nini, Thefour, Zia budapest) will present their collections.

On September 27 at 5pm, La Permanente will also host the 6th edition of Milano Moda Graduate, with the most talented students from the best Italian fashion schools parading in two categories: one dedicated to Fashion Design, and one to YKK Italia, the main partner of the event, for the third time mentoring and encouraging young designers in their education and research. Piattaforma Sistema  Formativo  Moda, an association of 21 fashion schools, will participate with the digital event  “Fashion  Graduate Italia 2020”, showcasing works and creations by students from eleven schools.
