Mother: The Madonna by Maestro Giuseppe Fata

Mother: the Madonna by Maestro Giuseppe Fata

The work inaugurated on the occasion of the Jubilee of Artists.

Many artists have been able to enhance the sweet Marian light with their daily commitment to the world of creativity. This path means immense spirituality that Giuseppe Fata, head sculpture designer of international fame, is deepening, approaching his art with a message of universal love that translates of the Marian truth. “Mother”, an installation dedicated to Holy Mary with a mantle dotted with 200 signatures of mystical devotion, was exhibited on Sunday, February 16th, 2025 on the occasion of the Jubilee of Artists at the Church of the Artists in Rome: on that occasion, the Holy Celebration at 12.00 represented the highest moment in order to join in a choral prayer to Mary, the great mother of us all.

In addition to the ongoing design path dedicated to the Jubilee, Fata has expressed its artistic genius with the icons of Light of the Baroque Madonnas of Noto, capital of the Baroque and UNESCO heritage. “Master Fata honored me, he chose me and my name appears with famous personalities such as Gai Mattiolo, Al Bano, Santo Versace, Giuseppe Zeno and many others. – comments Simona Fontana ContiniThis inspired me, thinking about the energy power located in each signature that makes each individual unique in his or her greatness. And the strength in each of us will be the single instrument that will play together as in an orchestra.
Certainly, in addition to being an honor, it is a great responsibility to be in the mantle, it means to be devoted to Mary and disciples of her word.”

The “Simulacrum” project: a journey through art, faith and spirituality. The Sacred Art of Giuseppe Fata’s Sculpted Heads, enclosed in the international project Simulacrum, represents a unique journey between beauty and spirituality, combining art, faith and devotion. This work symbolically fills a cultural emptiness, as until today there was no statue of the Madonna dedicated to artists. “Mother” represents a tribute of faith, beauty and hope for creatives from all over the world, in the context of the Jubilee of Artists and the world of culture. The liturgical celebration was presided over by H.E. Rev.ma Antonio Staglianò, President of the Pontifical Academy of Theology and new Rector of the Church of Artists, appointed by Pope Francis on 8 December last. The basilica hosted religious and institutional personalities, including representatives of the Ministry of Culture, UNESCO and an international audience of artists and faithful.

The work is the result of a collective project that involved over 200 artists from different fields – art, music, cinema, fashion and culture – who symbolically affixed their signatures to the Holy Mary’s cloak, creating a deep link between creativity and spirituality. Made with contemporary techniques, the sculpture shows Holy Mary wrapped in clothes that symbolize maternal protection. On the head, a sphere that blooms from a flower represents the world and the beauty of creation, gifts that artists have always offered to humanity. The serene face of the Madonna conveys a message of universal hope, while the gilding of the work emphasizes its sacred power.

The inauguration of “Mother” represents a bridge between tradition and innovation, celebrating artistic creativity in all its forms. The sculpture has been placed inside the Chapel of the Crucifix of the basilica, where it can be admired by the faithful and visitors. Maestro Fata concluded by thanking all those who contributed to the realization of this extraordinary work: “I am deeply thankful thanks to all the artists, present and not, who with their affection have made this idea possible. Happy Jubilee of hope to all.”
