Fondaco dei Tedeschi

The building it is already worth a visit in itself: a few steps from the Rialto Bridge, it is one of the most important historical buildings of the artistic heritage of the Serenissima. The Fontego dei Tedeschi, as it was called, was built in 1505, and has always served as a place of commercial exchange. Following an accurate and precious restoration by the OMA studio – led by the architect and urban planner Rem Koolhaas – it maintains the charm of the ancient building, made even more precious by the interior spaces, designed by the English designer Jamie Fobert. Both the restoration and the interior decoration were designed to obtain a constant and harmonious dialogue between the past and the present of the Fondaco.
