A good day starts with a good night’s sleep!
Il Palagio Vecchio di Fiesole, the first Italian Quiet Relais, aims to give its guests the best sleep experience and allow them to relax completely. Palagio Vecchio, an ancient villa that dates back to 1300 and lies gently on the unique Fiesole’s hills in Tuscany, used to be the resindence of famous Renaissance painters and Florentine prominrnent nobles and Medici family’s summer retreat. From here, from the silence of its ancient walls, you can enjoy a breathtaking view over the city of Florence, surrounded by nature and olive trees.
The project’s conception of sleep as an experience of total well-being was inspired by the atmosphere of relaxation and tranquility that characterizes Il Palagio Vecchio. Having a good night’s sleep is essential for obtaining the energy you need for the day, and feeling rested results in a decrease in stress and greater willingness towards family, friends, and colleagues. All the most recent and advanced studies and research agree that poor quality sleep increases the chance of contracting several pathologies (like diabetes) and even promotes cognitive decline and the onset of neurovascular pathologies. Sleeping cleanses the brain of any accumulated sludge from wakefulness, allowing it to intuitively solve problems, even from a neurological perspective.
About 1/3 of our lives are spent asleep, and the quality of our sleep can be gauged through its duration, regularity, efficiency, and fragmentation (number of awakenings) It’s undoubtedly true that when you’re young, you’ll tend to go to bed later and sleep longer. However, over time, your body’s natural sleeping pattern will transform from being an “owl” to being an “lark”, leading to a drop in the quantity of sleep you get. It’s worth mentioning that sleep disorders impact over 8 million Italians, with 50% of them being chronic, and only 7% receive a diagnosis and specific treatment. Not only does the Palagio Vecchio offer a beautiful and refined location to stay in, organize a unique event, or just enjoy a memorable stay, but it’s also a great place to learn about why sleeping well is good for health and how to improve your sleep and lifestyle once you’re home, possibly changing your lifestyle.
At Il Plagio Vecchio everything is designed for a good night’s sleep, far away from the noise and stress of everyday life. Each of the ten rooms, from the wonderful Prestige to the noble Junior Suites, the exclusive Garden and Tower Suites, is equipped with a “smart” mattress that can improve sleep, pillows of different densities, high definition TV’s darkened by ancient mirrors, bulbs without blue light, completely blackout curtains and a domotic system that manages climatic comfort and audio video. An acoustic study was conducted to select the best materials for soundproofing every room to ensure the highest level of sound insulation in all areas of the Relais.
To further understand how to sleep well and the significance of good sleep for our health, guests have access to a digital content library created exclusively for Il Palagio Vecchio by SleepActa, spin-off of the University of Pisa, which develops screening solutions for the sleep-wake cycle and night apnea, based on artificial intelligence algorithms. This unique Quiet Relais provides more than just a personalized path: it also provides scientific advice from Prof. Ugo Faraguna, associate professor of Physiology at the University of Pisa, recognized as one of the world’s leading experts in sleep physiology and President of SleepActa.
For the first time in a tourist accommodation, SleepActa presents the revolutionary system ‘DORMI’, which is approved as a medical device, and involves non-invasive actigraphic sleep monitoring before and during the visit, which enables to determine the quality of sleep of each guest. At the end of their stay, guests will receive a customized report that includes direct comments from a sleep physiology doctor and valuable suggestions on how to improve both their sleep and overall wellbeing.
“DORMI” involves the utilization of a sensor bracelet that tracks movement and other vital parameters of the subject, and utilizes deep-learning algorithms to analyze sleep with high precision and accuracy. Before arrival at the hotel, the device is sent to the guest and, with the aid of a thorough screening, assists doctors in the diagnosis of sleep disorders such as insomnia and respiratory disorders, while still maintaining complete privacy.
To experience a peaceful sleep, reap its advantages, improve your health and rediscover a slower pace in the suggestive silence of the Relais – with yoga sessions under olive trees, complete relaxation through music and romantic and exclusive dinners in the Tower with a view of Florence’s beauty, all you have to do is book a stay at Il Palagio Vecchio.
